It has been a long time since we made any content as Bushcraft Heroes. Honestly, there are a few reasons why. Mainly, we were busy in our personal lives. Matt was getting married, I was engaged and Reuben has a young son that requires his time. When we made Bushcraft Heroes, we wanted to get into the woods to develop our skills and grow as individuals. It felt like we were pandering a little bit to social media in the end. The whole energy of it sort of shifted towards being somewhat stressful and that’s so not why we got into Bushcraft in the first place.
We also lost access to the property that the treehouse was on a year-and-a-half ago so that meant that we couldn’t go back and even film a sort of “last hurrah” at the treehouse. So much time passed, it just felt stagnant. To go back to it felt like acting upon something that is gone. It would have been good for us to write a video explaining that we were stopping, but we were in two minds at that time. It took two years to realize that we’re never going to get back out as Bushcraft Heroes and shoot videos under that premise.
There was also a fair bit of stress about needing to recreate an episode of something. The treehouse was fun and we enjoyed the whole process but it did turn into something that needed to be bested each time. Honing your skills is great, but the pressure to do that for the sake of views, likes, or social media prowess was not really what we got into this for. I think it weighed on us. It shifted away from what we were into, which was just being in nature and becoming more comfortable in it.
With that said we were always surprised with how active the community became on our channel, and we met some really sweet people during that time who wanted to support us in our adventures. I think I can speak for everyone in saying we appreciate the community that came together around us, and are excited to be back and doing it under this new umbrella, ‘Walk Wild’.
Not being niched to simply Bushcraft, but being able to do hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, canoeing, and whatever it is that we love to do outdoors, is an exciting time for us and we’re really looking forward to getting that up and running.

Absolutely! Last week, all three of us, Reuben, Matt, and I met up for beers to talk about Walk Wild and this new direction as Reuben won’t be actively involved. We are still completely best friends so if people were worried about us having some kind of bust-up and losing each other as friends, that’s just not the case!
Reuben will show up in videos from time to time in the future. Matt may show up in videos from time to time to do some cooking or something, but he really wants to focus on capturing the content. I’m positive you will see us all on camera again in the future.

The first emotion I feel is excitement and, with that, comes the sense of stepping up to a ledge and looking over the precipice, realizing that it’s a lot to do. You know you can do it but it can sometimes seem a little daunting, but in reality, you are just excited, and that carries with you through to the next step.
I’m moving into a phase of my life where I want to become an instructor and a mentor to people who are getting into outdoor activities such as Hunting, Fishing, and Bushcraft, so it makes sense for me to be the one that’s going in front of the camera and showing the skills I’ve learned. The fact that we get to share that and build this business together is super exciting.
I can’t wait to return to nature with good friends and reconnect with something that we worked really hard on and not let that just slip through the cracks. At this point, it’s about making the most of something that we’ve got in the palm of our hands.
We’re just really going back to the reasons that we started Bushcraft Heroes. To practice skills and embrace our love of nature, and how much we enjoy the beauty of it.

With Matt being behind the camera exclusively filming me, it comes down to the fact that if I was on my own in the bush, I don’t talk out loud or explain what I’m about to do to myself. When I’m in the woods, I want to be slow, and calm, and just run through the tasks in a way that comes across to the audience. For us, that’s a really nice way to consume media, especially with Bushcraft. It just adds an element of relaxation for us and that’s what we want to convey to our viewers.
